can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today
I started growing my passion for music as a young child from Natick, Massachusetts. I came from a family with divorced parents so I was forced to move often, in middle school I had attended 4 different schools between 5th and 8th grade. Moving around a lot at a young age taught me the ability to adapt to changes in my life and how to network with others. This has been my greatest asset today and has helped me get to where I am. Even though I moved around often my ambition to lead and passion for music followed me everywhere.
I simply wanted to share my diverse collection of music with audiences. I began shadowing other established DJs at nightclubs and private events in 2011 and began officially DJing one year later in 2012.I had also learned in the beginning that I needed to expand my knowledge and do more than just DJ because my reliability in others became detrimental to my business. I began reading books and watching videos on everything surrounding the craft such as graphic design, photography, marketing, entrepreneurship, and Videography.
Has it been a smooth road?
DJ’ing has been far from a smooth road the beginning was the hardest, many
family members and people close to me didn’t think this was a good career path.
I had imagined that things would be easier and that others who had mastered the
craft would always be there to help out, but I was mostly on my own so the fear
of the unknown had haunted me for a while. Often times I battled with stage
fright and a major fear of failure which has since gone away.
The more I DJ’d live and practiced while no one was watching helped me to
develop a sense of confidence and a distinctive style. Branding myself was a
challenge finding that “something” that other DJs didn’t offer was tough, and
outsourcing to vendors and peers that didn’t have the same vision or
reliability in this industry as I do was an obstacle above all.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the DJ Joey Lavish story. Tell us more about the business. My business is a Disc Jockey service that specializes in production for all occasions. My brand and willingness to delay instant gratification in order to grow sets me apart from others this is seen in my extensive music library, and passion for visual marketing on social media and other web outlets. I am known for getting involved in great causes, and as a solo DJ, this is what I am most proud of.
